Order of chivalry code5/27/2023 ![]() ![]() The Code of Chivalry used by the Order of Christian Knights was penned by Sir Anthony Shanander early in his studies of the chivalric arts, and is influenced by the Scriptures and the writings of the ancient knightly masters. Some knights wrote books about what they believed it meant to act in accordance with chivalry, but the concept was a philosophy, not a rule. Chivalry was more of an idea than an explicit code during the middle ages, and every feudal lord had his own idea about how his knights should practice the arts of chivalry. Thus, chivalry evolved to become horsemanship, military knowledge and skills, courtesy, and even courtly love. Cavalry in the middle ages was extremely expensive, and thus restricted to the affluent. ![]() The word chivalry comes from the Old French word "chevalerie," which roughly translates as "horsemanship." In England, mounted bodyguards were called "cniht" in Old English, which means "servant." As the institutions of chivalry and knighthood developed, the former grew to mean everything the latter was supposed to be. It is a beautiful work of art that is inspired by the Scriptures and by the history of the institution of knighthood. It should be interpreted as a whole, but can be applied in parts. ![]() The Code is part guide for life and part poetry. The idea of the Code of Chivalry comes from the height of the era of knighthood. It is the Ancient Tradition of the Order that it is the solemn duty of the newest-made member of the Order to provide refreshing beverages at council meetings.The Code of Chivalry is the guideline knights and other members of the Order of Christian Knights follow when going about their daily lives. Any recommendations for membership in the Order should be addressed to the clerk, and to the Crown. The Order has a website and an Email address that is answered by the Clerk of the Order. To bestow the Accolade of Knighthood upon a candidate for the Order of Knighthood, as the sole right as Sovereign or acting directly for the Sovereign, for only a Knight can create a Knight.To advise the Crown on the advancement of candidates for the Chivalry.To enhance the renown and defend the honour of the peer’s Lady or Lord.To support and uphold the Crown of his or her Kingdom.To enrich the Kingdom by sharing his or her knowledge and skills.To respect the Crown of the Kingdom to support and uphold the laws of the Kingdom and Corpora.To set an example of courtesy and chivalrous conduct on and off the field of honour.DutiesĪs a council, the Order acts as a consultative body to The Crown, whose duties are defined by Corpora as follows: So far, all members of the Lochac order have been created Knights (KSCA). Members of the Order are usually summoned in court to reaffirm their vow to each new Crown. The other Peerage Orders are the Order of the Pelican, the Order of the Laurel, and the Order of Defense.Ĭandidates invited to join the Order may choose to join as one of two kinds of members: Knights, who swear perpetual fealty to the Crown and Kingdom on their elevation, and Masters/Mistresses of Arms, who do not. The Right Noble Order of Chivalry of Lochac is one of the four Peerage Orders and elevation to the order is granted for excellence in armoured combat in the Kingdom of Lochac. ![]() The Peerage Orders of Lochac seek to exemplify and promote the virtues of Service, Creativity and Chivalry, for if any of these are lacking the Kingdom fails. ![]()
